Thermodynamics is used universally in each and every field of science and technology. If u want to define thermodynamic in one sentence, u can do it like this :"Thermodynamic is branch of science which deals with change of properties of system with change in temperature." or we can say like this: "Thermodynamic is a tool which converts organised form of energy ( heat ) into assembled form( work ) of energy inefficient manner."
SYSTEM
The system is the very important term in thermodynamics. The system is defined as " A particular region of mass in space on which all study of thermodynamics is concentrated." If u want to understand thermodynamics then, first of all, u must define a system. In thermodynamic, there are three types of system available. Open system closed system and isolated system.
- Free SYSTEM: an Open system is defined as the system in which there is the transfer of mass and energy between system and surrounding. Here is an example of the free system
2. CLOSED SYSTEM: the Closed system is defined as the system in which there is the transfer of energy only, but there is no transfer of mass between system and surrounding.
3. ISOLATED SYSTEM: an Isolated system is defined as a system in which there is neither transfer of mass nor energy between system and surrounding. The perfect separate system is not possible in real life because there is always some transfer of energy. But we can take thermos as a separate system.

BOUNDARY AND UNIVERSE( SURROUNDING )
The boundary is a separation line which separate system and surrounding. The boundary can be real or imaginary, it can be fixed or variable. The system is always defined its boundary.
The universe is defined as a region which is anything except system and limit. World or surrounding can be taken as the reservoir.
