Steps in Designing of Any Machine


This is a very interesting post. I should have posted it first but you know I m a student like you. so I just forgot about this. I think it will answer all your question about how to design any kind of machine. How to design any kind of machine? What things we should consider before designing of any kind of machine? From where should we start to design any machine? There are few steps which u should consider before design any kind of machine:

 Let’s get started.




1.      First of all, give priority to the product. If you want to design a machine or series of machines to make a specific product, collect of specification or characteristics a consumer wants in that product. Now give priority list to this characteristics.

a.      ex: if you wants to make a scooter make a list of its required specification like:
b.      average, speed, acceleration, handling, look, breaking system, strength etc.

c.       now if you wants to make a sports bike u will give priority to speed than average.



2.      In the second step, you will see that which kind of mechanism u will need in the machine. Suppose that u are making a press machine in which u need to convert rotation motion of the motor to reciprocating motion. There is more than one mechanism to do this. It is advisable to choose mechanism depends on the requirement of production rate and cost of the product. Like:
a.      Crank and connecting rod mechanism can be used to convert rotation to reciprocation. It has good efficiency.
b.      Nut and screw mechanism ( as discussed in the previous post) can be used for the same purpose but it has poor efficiency with lower cost.
c.       The hydraulic system has the higher efficiency for this purpose but it is very costly.


3.      Now in the third step, you will make a list of components which will be needed to make this kind of mechanism. Some special mechanism will be made in a factory and some of the components will be ordered from the vendor.


4.      Now in the four step make a block diagram for the entire machine. This diagram will consist each and every mechanism which is going to be used in the machine and this mechanism should be arranged in proper order too. Suppose you need a motor for conveyor belt at the beginning so it comes first in the block diagram.



5.      After block diagram, now it’s time to calculate load which is going to be carried by machine. Depends on this load, the design of machine will be modified if necessary. Materials which are used in the machine also depend on this load calculation. Different types of couplings, joints, bolts, screws are also decided in this step.
