KINEMATIC LINK, PAIR & CHAIN

There are only two types of mechanics in machine 1^st is kinematics mechanism & 2^nd is dynamics tool.

KINEMATICS:  It deals with relative motion between different parts of the mechanism without       consideration  of force .)

DYNAMICS: It involves the effect of strength impressed on different parts.( one thing to be noted that for study of dynamics study of kinematics is must).

                              These are some basic things, now let’s start with our today’s topic.

 Kinemetic Link:

                                  Kinematic links or elements are defined as some resistant bodies of which some may have motion relatives to the others. Links can be classified into binary, ternary, Quaternary, etc. depending upon its end on which revolute or turning pairs can be placed. For example,  The slider crank mechanism consists four links: frame & guide, crank, connecting rod and slider. The links shown in the figure are hard links, and there is no relative motion between them.

Kinematic Pair:

                                 A pair is joint of two links having a relative motion on each other. If this pair has constrained motion, then it is called kinematic pair. Here in the figure of slider crank mechanism, we can see different types of kinematic pairs. In the case of slider crank mechanism, link2 rotates about link1 and constitutes a revolute of turning pair. Similarly, link 2,3&3,4 represent turning pairs. Link 4 reciprocates about link1 and is a sliding pair.

Kinematic Chain:

                                 A kinematic chain is an assembly of links in which relative motion between links is possible, and the movement of each about other is definite or constraint. All chains are not kinematics chains, but only that chain in which all relative motion of links is constrained movement.
